department of education : Is College Still Important???
department of education
department of education
The other day I was chopping it up with a friend of mine and we were dissecting the importance of a college education in 2010. We both understand that a person should continue to further their education, that is not the question. But we were looking at the significance of a 4 year degree. And after about a good 30 minutes breaking it down, I came to the conclusion that if I could do it again I would have probably skipped the college track.
Now don’t it confused, the social aspect of college is top-notch. The ability to meet people from all parts of the world is what it is all about. But do you want to pay $50,000- $100,000 for that experience? Damn you can just hang out on the yard and get at least part of the fun for cheap.
I know for some careers a college education is important i.e. doctor, educator, etc. but how bout those hundreds of other degrees you can get? Is it worth it going to an institute of higher learning just to make around $30,000, but have a mortgage for a student loan? Is it worth it to have a loan that you might not pay back until you are a senior citizen?
Outside of a few choice careers, most skills needed for jobs can be acquired by 12th grade or an associate degree at the most. If I could rewind the hands of time, I may have chosen a different path than the one I am going down now. How many of you know of successful individuals who never completed college? I know I know my share, and what is funny about it is that most of them have no serious debt. Maybe a credit card or two, but nothing like the damage some graduates have racked up.
What are your thoughts Moguls? Is a college education still important in this current financial climate?
