The National Museum of Science and Technology was created by the Royal Decrete in June 1980 and from that moment the team began to put together a collection of instruments and apparatus which originated from distinct educational and investigative centres. These were to be the evidence and testimony of the evolution of science and technology in Spain. The highlights of the museum are a collection of instruments from the 16th till the 18th century ceded by educational institutions like the Instituto San Isidro, institución heredera de las colecciones de la Real Academia de Matemáticas de Felipe II, del Colegio Imperial and the Reales Estudios de San Isidro, as well as the Instituto Cardenal Cisneros. The museum presently has 380 permanent objects in their exposition while the warehouses and storage facilities house more than 14.000 pieces.
