A short one, since I imagine my ranting on the subject may begin to bore.

A week ago, on my now standard weekly phone call, I was suddenly informed they had in fact NOT begun to process my application. Given that I had now been waiting 13 weeks, and we were promised a maximum 6 week wait this time, I questioned it. The poor operator then spent around 20 mins on the phone to the Head Office in Darlington (which is now another routine of my phone calls) only to discover they had no explanation. They had simply not bothered to do it. Consequently, my account was flagged by both offices, and the operator assured me if I called again this week, they would have some progress.

I called today, and after another short conversation, was put on hold while they spoke to Head Office. They then informed me that although they had acknowledged (only on the phone, still not on the website) all my documents for my current year income assessment, I had not sent them the form. In fact, I HAD sent the form, it was attached to the documents. I explained this, and was put on hold again, no doubt while they tried to come up with another story to fob me off.

When the operator returned, I was informed that as the form had been misplaced, I would now have to fill in another. Basically, after 3 months, I am being asked to start the application process again.

I have now resent the form, as well as an accompanying letter of complaint (wasting my money AGAIN on registered post) informing them of my intention to inform my MP, as well as the Chief executive of SFE.

This is shocking that after two years, they can still try and pull the wool over our eyes as to how badly they are organized.

Unlike last year, I don’t have any savings. If Student Finance fail to produce my money for September, they will tell me to get a short term loan from my University. My university will not issue this loan, as I live at home, and supposedly, my parents should find the money to pay for me.

Thanks to Student Finance, I will be forced to go to my bank and request an extended overdraft, and go into debt when I could quite easily have managed, if they had just bother to process my application 3 months ago.

Next year, I think I’ll have to try calling once a day, not once a week.
