CFH Athletes,

You have committed to fitness and a healthier lifestyle. With that you need to make sure you give care and attention to your hygiene.  Hygiene is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.  Hygiene is a broad topic and to be more specific, please allow me to be blunt.

We have all been there, smashing through a wod when as we are focusing on breathing we catch a big wif of some not so clean CFH athlete wafting their stench about. This stank smell is more often produced in the morning and evening classes when, A) you think it’s okay to roll out of bed and come to the gym without brushing your fangs or putting on the powder under your arms. B) It’s been a long day and your deodorant left town faster than your prom date.   Were all made of the same components (expect Andy) that produce odor, some of us just take better care of our bodies than others.  So moving forward, do yourself a favor and all of us a favor and BE CLEAN, keep your PHUNK at home or in your car.  I’ve added tips below on staying clean.

And now the other PHUNK, known as a “trouser cough”, “air biscuit”, SBV, SBD, pop and most commonly a “FART.”   Now I’m not here to give you a lesson on reducing your excess gas, but if you’re interested please see the link below.  I’m here to ask that you to take that GAS outside or in the bathroom.  Spare the class your smell, your fellow athletes will appreciate it.  Sure one might slip out during a FRAN or HELEN, but don’t maliciously crop dust CFH, we just don’t have the space for that.  It’s called a BOX, not a FART BOX.

Until next time brothers and sisters, stay clean and PHUNK FREE.

TIPS FOR NOT BEING PHUNKY-

1

Wear a Powdered Foot Spray.

If your feel have a tendency to sweat excessively during exercise, spray your feet lightly with a deodorant foot spray that has a light coating of powder. This will help to keep your feet dry and fragrance free.

2

Don’t Overcompensate with Perfume.

When you exercise at a public gym, don’t try to mask odor by wearing perfume. When you get into a warm, closed environment, the smell of your perfume can be offensive to other gym members. If you feel like you need to apply scent, wait until you complete your workout and apply a light spray before you go back to the office.

3

Carry Scented Body Wipes in your Gym Bag.

If you won’t be able to shower before going back to work, carry a package of scented body wipes in your gym bag to wipe away sweat and odor. One brand of scented body wipes that work well are No Rinse Body Wipes. They can help you feel refreshed and odor free even after a tough workout.

4

Wear Loose, 100% Cotton Gym Clothing.

During your gym workout, wear loose, light colored, 100% cotton gym clothing that’ll allow air movement throughout your workout. This will reduce the degree of sweating and odor you generate during exercise. Avoid wearing tight fitting spandex which can allow moisture and odor build up to occur.

5

Alternate your Workout Shoes on a Daily Basis.

Wearing the same workout shoes each time you visit the gym can create moisture which serves as a breeding ground for odor causing bacteria and fungus. Have several pairs of workout shoes that you alternate each time you go to the gym. Always wear white, cotton, gym socks to help keep your feet dry and odor free.

6

Wear a Quality Antiperspirant.

Find an antiperspirant that works for you and use it religiously on days you’re going to the gym at lunch time. Include an antiperspirant container in your gym bag to reapply after your workout if necessary. Plus, you’ll want

7

Bathe and Shave Under your Arms in the Morning.

If you’ll be exercising at the gym during lunch, take a shower and shave thoroughly under your arms to remove underarm hair. Underarm hair is a breeding ground for odor producing bacteria. After shaving under your armpits, use a textured washcloth to thoroughly scrub under the arms and around between the toes. This will further help to reduce levels of odor producing bacteria.

higher education : Why the Snow was Homesick, and Six More

It’s impossible for me to pinpoint my absolute favorite step of creating mini operas with students, but one of the most rewarding and surprising pieces is creating the story. As much as I try to avoid the pitfall of entering a class with preconceived story lines mapped out in my head, I inevitably begin detailing the conflicts and resolutions our characters will endure before the lesson begins. Just as inevitably, the students blow my ideas out of the water with far superior stories of their own.

Today seven short stories were born in the 5th grade class at P. Elementary, all in about twenty minutes. We had a head start though–small groups of students had already created their character (a type of weather), and matched it to an appropriate emotion:

A crazy mad blizzard
A furious hurricane
A hopeless downpour
Hate-filled scorching heat

A crazy Tornado

Destructively mad Thunder and Lightning
Homesick Snow
